Challenge
Managing a fast-track, schedule-driven energy facility where construction began before final site plans were complete, requiring continuous adaptation to evolving designs without impacting critical milestones.
Solution
E.S. Wagner mobilized immediately following award, deploying 19 pieces of heavy grading equipment in less than two weeks and completing more than 440,000 cubic yards of earthwork in just six weeks while maintaining the owner’s original schedule despite ongoing design revisions. Leveraging in-house construction specialists and Professional Engineers, the team supported final site plan development, implemented cost-saving engineering alternatives, and resolved site balance challenges through the creation of an additional eight-acre pad. This collaborative approach reduced owner risk and delivered the project with zero recordable incidents.

Project Scope
E.S. Wagner played a key role in the Kensington Cryogenic Processing and Fractionation Facility, one of the first projects of its kind supporting the Utica Shale industry in eastern Ohio, by preparing a 55-acre site through mass grading, drainage, sediment control, demolition, aggregate placement, and seeding while maintaining production amid ongoing design development to meet the project’s aggressive Speed-to-Market objectives. Mobilizing (19) pieces of heavy equipment within two weeks of award, the team completed more than 440,000 cubic yards of earthwork in six weeks while adapting to continual design revisions and maintaining the owner’s original schedule. Value engineering efforts helped avoid unnecessary slope stabilization costs and facilitated development of an additional eight-acre pad that resolved site balance challenges without impacting project milestones. The project was completed with an exemplary safety record, including zero accidents, injuries, or avoidable equipment damage and a highly favorable OSHA inspection. Since completing the original scope, E.S. Wagner has continued to support multiple site expansions, consistently delivering critical work ahead of schedule.
