At E.S. Wagner, our culture is at the heart of our organization. It is our standards for how we behave towards each other, our customers and our community. Building and sustaining our culture requires intentional effort from everyone in the organization. Our Culture Playbook outlines our core beliefs that shape our behavior that ultimately determine our success.

What we believe

How we behave

Outcomes we achieve

Do what you say. Follow through.

Trust is built through people repeatedly experiencing you doing what you say you will do. Be intentional and purposeful about the commitments you make. If you make a commitment, then follow through. Have the courage to acknowledge when you don’t follow through, and then work hard to follow up and honor the commitment you made.

Own your attitude and impact.

Your attitude impacts the people around you. Own it. Your attitude is your choice, so choose a productive one even when you don’t feel like it. Manage your self-talk, keep it discipline-driven. Be proactive and look for solutions and ways to build trust. Find and focus on what really matters. Remember, a good attitude is fun to be around.

Lead and be led.

Great leaders are great followers. If you don’t know how to follow, then you don’t know how to lead. Know when to let someone else lead. Value the strengths of each of your teammates. Respect their abilities and actively seek to leverage their abilities to get the job done.

We earn trust.

Commit to each other and the process.

Our commitment to each other exceeds our desire for comfort. We owe it to each other and to ourselves to demand the highest levels of teamwork and collaboration. Sometimes this means we have to say things we aren’t comfortable saying and hearing things we aren’t comfortable hearing. We are committed to the process of growth and we embrace the productive discomfort that comes with trying new ideas, learning new skills, and actively adapting to change.

Invest the time to care, listen, and communicate.

Caring is an action, not an emotion. When we care, we pay better attention and give better effort. Listening is one of the most important things we do. When we invest the time to listen, we create the personal connections that enable us to communicate and work together at a high level. When we communicate, we share ideas and perspectives and make better decisions.

Give help, take help. Make each other better.

Pay attention, when you see someone who needs your support, help them. When you need support, ask for it. Always be on the lookout for ways to make each other better. Think and act in ways that motivate others to perform at the next level. This requires each of us to be others-centered, not self-centered. We are family, so act like it.

We are aligned.

Step up to challenges.

We expect to win every day. We love big challenges. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be any fun. Our customers and our teammates look to us to solve problems and get the job done. When we have the courage to step up to our challenges, it encourages our teammates to step up to their challenges.

Bring positive energy and passion.

Bring the best version of you to work every day. The energy and passion you bring to the job makes a big difference to your teammates. Find ways to inspire and motivate each other. Be an energy giver, not an energy taker. Focus on what we can do, not on what we can’t do.

Find solutions. No BCD.

We focus on solutions. We understand that big challenges require even bigger solutions, and we are committed to finding a way. We don’t waste time blaming, complaining or defending. Instead we own what we can do in our 20 square feet to be part of the solution.

You Grow. We Grow.
