Challenge

Over a 20-plus year period, performing numerous projects, all demanding large-scale excavation, typically in wintertime conditions. Coordinating efficient haul routes and material placement while maintaining stable site conditions and quick recovery from weather events, while allowing for uninterrupted quarrying operations.

Solution

Committing significance equipment resources to reduce schedule duration, while stablishing well- planned haul routes and ramps to maximize efficiency and safety. Implementing proactive water management controls, such as temporary drainage systems and ditching, to keep excavation areas stable and operational. Working with National Lime and Stone to match the quarrying and stripping plans to maximize the productivity of both operations.

Project Scope

E.S. Wagner Company performed numerous stripping operations for National Lime and Stone to support quarry development and access to underlying resources. The projects included mobilization of personnel and equipment, followed by clearing and grubbing to prepare the sites for excavation. Temporary water management measures were implemented, including drainage tile intercepts and constructed ditches to maintain safe and efficient working conditions. Haul ramps were strategically placed and carefully constructed to facilitate challenging access to overburden walls and maximize productivity. The primary scopes involved the removal of overburden materials to expose usable rock deposits. Excavated materials were hauled to designated areas for stockpiling or reuse as engineered fill. Placement of fill and construction of dikes were completed to support site grading and long-term stormwater control.
