# I-69 NEW HIGHWAY — ALIGNMENT AND STRUCTURES

- **Sector:** Transportation
- **Client:** INDOT
- **Location:** Bloomington, IN
- **State:** Indiana
- **Status:** complete
- **Site Size:** 4 Miles of I-69

## By the Numbers

- 3.9M CY Earthwork
- 9 Bridge Structures
- 4,500 CY Structural Concrete
- 48,000 SF MSE Wall Panels
- 4,300 LF Driven Pile

## Challenge

Constructing four miles of new interstate through challenging terrain required managing nearly 4 million cubic yards of earthwork, deep rock excavation, multiple waterway crossings, and record rainfall. The project also included complex bridge construction with mass concrete placements exceeding 90 feet in height.

## Solution

E.S. Wagner developed innovative construction sequencing, redesigned the Lodge Road Bridge to support 50-ton haul trucks, and repurposed over one million cubic yards of limestone into riprap, satisfying more than 90% of project needs. Proactive erosion control measures and extensive self-performed design revisions kept the project on schedule while delivering a high-quality finished corridor.

## Project Scope

E.S. Wagner Company completed INDOT Section 4, Segment 8 of the Interstate 69 corridor near Bloomington, Indiana, constructing approximately four miles of new highway through challenging terrain. The project included nearly 3.9 million cubic yards of earthwork, extensive limestone excavation, 1.5 miles of drainage infrastructure, and three large box culverts designed to support significant embankments and waterway crossings. E.S. Wagner also self-performed construction of nine bridge structures, placing more than 4,500 cubic yards of structural concrete, installing over 4,300 linear feet of driven pile, and constructing 48,000 square feet of MSE wall panels. Through innovative construction sequencing, on-site material reuse, and collaborative design solutions, the team successfully delivered a critical segment of the I-69 expansion while maintaining quality, environmental compliance, and project continuity.
